For Louisianans and people across the nation who are striving to make themselves look and feel better, cosmetic surgery is commonplace. Often, they might not think about the dangers of the procedures and fail to realize that it is surgery and carries with it the same risks as a necessary medical procedure. Doctors and medical staff must be attentive and professional. The same standard of care is applicable for cosmetic surgeries as it is for other kinds of medical treatments. When there is an error and it causes serious injury or death, those who are affected may want to pursue a medical malpractice lawsuit.
A woman who was getting a Brazilian butt lift is now paralyzed after an error occurred during the procedure. With this procedure, injections are put into the area she sought to improve. She was supposed to be in and out of the hospital in the same day. However, when she woke up, she could not feel her lower extremities. After the procedure, she was taken to a post-op hotel when she says she needed hospitalization.
She says that the doctor who did the surgery injected an excess amount of fat into her gluteal area and it inflicted excessive pressure on her sciatic nerve. In instances such as this, it is necessary to have various surgeons to handle the issues. At the hotel, she did not have that. When she went to the hospital, she was suffering from acute kidney failure and her medical issues gradually worsened. According to her current doctors, she will never walk again. She has filed a lawsuit against the doctor who did the initial procedure because of the damage she says she suffered.
Surgical errors are unfortunate occurrences that happen far too often. When it is due to a careless surgeon who did not adhere to proper protocol and allowed a patient to suffer damage when, with more diligence, it could have been prevented, it is a terrible incident that warrants the pursuit of compensation. Those who have been injured or lost a loved one due to a medical mistake may want to determine whether they have the right to sue. A medical malpractice attorney may be a good resource in times like these.
