Fatal accident kills teen girl, driver flees scene but is caught

In Louisiana, drivers who fail to adhere to the traffic laws can cause accidents which result in injuries and death. For example, running a red light puts everyone in danger because there is a natural expectation and requirement that drivers follow the law and stop at a red signal. People could be simply minding their own business and driving through a green light when they are suddenly involved in a catastrophic auto accident. To make matters worse, drivers who have caused a crash due to an illegal activity might compound it by fleeing the scene.

According to reports, a recent car accident led to the death of a 16-year-old girl. The accident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. when a car ran a red light and crashed into the vehicle in which the girl was a passenger. Her 18-year-old brother was driving. He was hurt, but survived. The female driver of the vehicle that ran the light fled from the crash, but was later caught and arrested. The woman who fled has the same surname as the victims in the other vehicle, but they are not related. The investigation is continuing.

The loss of a loved one in an unexpected and unnecessary auto accident is a difficult situation to get beyond. When it is a young person who is just starting out in life, it can be even worse. People who flout traffic laws, cause a fatal accident and then flee the scene have done substantial damage and a legal filing may be crucial to recover compensation. The medical expenses, lost companionship and pain and suffering will not be mitigated by a legal filing, but a lawsuit can help to recover some of the costs and help the family to move forward.

As the investigation continues based on this recent tragic collision, the family of the deceased girl and her injured brother may be thinking about the future and a potential wrongful death claim.
