On Behalf of | Aug 8, 2018 | Admiralty & Maritime Law

For many in Lake Charles, the height of summer enjoyment is water-based activities. While this is generally viewed as a safe activity, there are still dangers. Any vehicle carries a certain amount of danger. It is vital that boaters obey the law. Unfortunately, many do not, and accidents with injuries and fatalities happen. But, a lawsuit can be useful to recover compensation to pay for medical costs and other damages.

For example, recently, a boating accident led to a woman suffering serious injuries due to a boat propeller. The accident happened at night, and the woman was attending a party on the water with others.

The operator of the boat, a 37-year-old man, was arrested on multiple offenses after the accident. He operated the vehicle negligently and recklessly, and allegedly while under the influence.

The woman suffered severe leg lacerations. She was hospitalized and reported in stable condition.

For those who are enjoying activities on the water, it is unavoidable that risks will crop up. Many of these are due to the actions of an irresponsible boat operator. Some boaters will operate their vessels recklessly, will be under the influence or behave negligently. There are many reasons why there might be a watercraft accident, and it can injure passengers or those who are simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Head injuries, spinal cord damage, cuts, bruises, drownings and more can result from a boating accident. With medical costs, lost wages, loss of ability to contribute to a family and even the untimely loss of a loved one, a lawsuit is critical to help with all that was lost financially and personally.

As the investigation into this incident continues, it is imperative that the woman and her family understand their rights to seek compensation in a legal filing. And, a law firm that has extensive experience in admiralty and maritime law and all it entails can likely help.
