Helicopter crash leads to two workplace injuries and one death

On Behalf of | May 23, 2018 | Workers' Compensation

Workplace accidents and injuries can happen in many kinds of employment in Louisiana. Since there are a seemingly endless number of occupations, the circumstances in which there are workplace injuries can vary accordingly. For example, some people work out in the field and perform a variety of duties. If the job requires the worker to take to the air as part of their employment, there is a chance that an accident can happen. These accidents can be severe with injuries and fatalities. Those who have been affected should know their rights to seek workers’ compensation and other benefits.

According to a recent report, a helicopter accident led to one death and two injuries. The men were working for an energy company and its workers were on a flight to do an inspection. It was said to be routine work and the helicopter had the pilot and two crew members onboard. The incident occurred in the mid-morning before 11 a.m. According to emergency personnel, it happened in a remote location.

When help arrived, the two wounded men, age 33 and 38, were transported to the hospital. The men who survived were said to have serious injuries, but the 38-year-old is not hurt as badly as the 33-year-old. The man who died, 33, was located under debris. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident. A rescuer stated that the pilot said the landing gear became caught on a power line and this precipitated the accident.

Workers can be injured when they are on location or doing work that requires them to take to the sky. These accidents can happen anywhere. Workers’ compensation benefits can pay for medical expenses and help the injured party make ends meet as they recover. For those who are affected by long-term damage, there are other alternatives available, such as Social Security Disability benefits. When seeking workers’ compensation, other benefits or considering a wrongful death lawsuit, having help from a law firm experienced in multiple facets of the law is crucial.
