Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run car accident in Louisiana

The roads of Louisiana can be dangerous for pedestrians. With the number of drivers who are distracted, reckless, speeding and negligent, pedestrians are more vulnerable than ever. When there are car accidents involving pedestrians, drivers are expected to stop and make sure the pedestrians are safe. If there are injuries, the driver must call for emergency services. Unfortunately, some drivers will flee the scene after a pedestrian accident. This worsens the issues that a person who was hit by a car will face. After a hit-and-run accident, the victim who was injured or the family of a person who was killed should know they may have the right to seek compensation in a lawsuit.

According to a recent report, a 53-year-old man was hit by a vehicle near the intersection of a road. The incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. The vehicle that hit the man fled the scene. It is not yet known what kind of vehicle it was. An investigation is underway to determine the type of vehicle and to locate the driver. The man who was hit was rushed to the hospital, but died. There are substantial penalties for a driver who flees the scene after causing serious bodily injury or death, including a fine of $5,000 and jail for up to 10 years.

People who have been injured in a pedestrian-car accident will often have a long road to recovery ahead of them. There can be head trauma, broken bones, cuts and major damage if the victim survives the accident. Long hospitalizations, lost time at work and the need for extended care are not uncommon. If the injuries are severe enough, the car accident victim can die. Families who have been affected by a pedestrian accident must know that they will likely need compensation to pay for the treatment and care. With a fatality, a funeral will be necessary. Insurers rarely offer enough to pay for all that was lost in the long and short-term, oftentimes making a lawsuit necessary.

Law enforcement officials are actively seeking the driver of the vehicle in this recent incident.
