The recent New Year’s Eve holiday saw revelers around the world celebrating the arrival of 2017. And, as a recent article noted, for many people throughout the world, including in Louisiana, those celebrations included alcohol. While there are many people who enjoy alcohol responsibly, the New Year’s Eve holiday is noted for the increase in the number of drunk drivers on the roads.
The recent article noted that in the local area a cab company, Yellow Cab of Lake Charles, was expanding its year-round “Safe Ride Home Program,” which usually offers discounted rates to those who choose to take a cab instead of driving after drinking, to offer 100 free rides on New Year’s Eve. The goal? To avoid potentially life-altering car accidents being caused by drunk drivers.
Yellow Cab of Lake Charles wasn’t the only local cab company with special offers on New Year’s Eve that encouraged those who would be drinking alcohol to choose not to drive. Other cab companies were also offering discounted rates over the holiday weekend, according to the recent article.
Our readers in Lake Charles will probably applaud these local companies that are doing their part to pitch in to help avoid car accidents on what should be a night of celebration. Unfortunately, car accidents are caused by drunk drivers quite frequently. Those who have suffered injuries in such accidents may be entitled to compensation by filing a personal injury lawsuit. Such compensation could cover losses due to medical expenses, lost wages, and/or pain and suffering.
