Morning is most likely time for a drowsy driver car accident

Any sort of distraction behind the wheel can put your life and others' lives at risk. Drowsy driving can be just as dangerous as drunk driving or driving while distracted on Louisiana roadways. Despite this, many people continue to drive without the proper amount of sleep. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reports that 328,000 car accidents are caused by drowsy driving every year. These accidents lead to 6,400 fatalities on average, devastating thousands of families.

A recent study by a website called "SleepJunkie" used data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to determine which times of day are most dangerous for drowsy drivers.

The deadliest time period is from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m., followed by 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. In other words, drivers who do not get enough sleep the night before cause a number of accidents when they get out the door in the morning. Dawn light and fog also play a role in many drowsy driving accidents.

The study also showed that drowsy driving fatalities made up 5 percent of the fatalities on interstates. Highways are especially dangerous for sleep-related accidents due to high speeds and a large number of vehicles. Utility vehicles are the most likely to be involved in a fatal drowsy driving accident.

If you or a loved one has been injured by a sleepy driver, you may have the right to file suit against the driver for negligence. If your suit is successful, you can recover damages to cover your medical expenses, lost wages and other costs.
