Hybrid-car accidents with pedestrians might be avoidable

Car accidents can cause severe injuries for anyone involved. When a car and pedestrian collide, the pedestrian can face catastrophic injuries because of cars are often not designed with pedestrian safety in mind. Recently, a proposal by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was announced in hopes of preventing some pedestrian-car accidents. Specifically, the proposal would address collisions with hybrid and electric vehicles.

These cars tend to emit far less noise than other vehicles. While it might seem cool to have an extremely quite car, pedestrians are put at risk because they may not be able to hear these cars coming. The requirement that is proposed would mandate that all hybrid and electric vehicles would have to emit a certain level of noise when travelling at speeds less than 18-miles-per-hour.

When these cars travel at higher speeds the noise is at a sufficient level. Car drivers and pedestrians share a responsibility in keeping the roads safe. When someone is involved in a car accident, either in the car or as a pedestrian, they might be wise to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney.

An attorney can help a victim understand their rights and help them seek compensation. These severe accidents can result in significant medical expense, long hospital stays and even permanent disability. Compensation can help a person pay for expenses and assist with daily tasks if they become disabled. It is important that compensation is considered for future expenses, as sometimes injuries result in the need for long-term or lifelong care.
