Fireman killed he helps at separate accident

On Behalf of | Jan 24, 2018 | Wrongful Death

Car accidents can happen to anyone in Louisiana and occur for a variety of reasons. Some accidents lead to injuries and others can cause death. A combination of factors can lead to these crashes including weather and a person simply doing his or her job being in the wrong place at the wrong time. A fatal accident must be fully investigated so the family can move forward with a wrongful death legal filing if one is applicable. To know whether it is possible to receive compensation after a fatal accident, it is important to discuss the matter with an attorney.

A firefighter died in a car accident as he responded to a separate crash. The accident occurred at around 9 a.m. when the firefighter had stopped to help with an earlier accident. A 2018 Dodge Ram 5500 being driven by a 51-year-old man was towing a trailer when he came upon the earlier crash. The driver lost control of his vehicle because of icy conditions on the road and hit several of the emergency response vehicles and then the firefighter. Two other people were injured. The firefighter was taken to the hospital and later declared dead. It is not believed that the truck driver was under the influence and the conditions are believed to have been a factor in the accident. The firefighter was married with two children.

Regardless of the cause of a fatal accident, there are certain foundational issues that the family left behind must deal with. That includes the funeral costs, lost wages of their loved one who died while working, the emotional turmoil from an untimely death, the lack of companionship and more. People who lose a loved one after their loved one left for the day for work must come to grips with the unexpected nature of the death. Insurers might try to make a settlement offer, but after calculating everything that was lost, these settlements are rarely sufficient to help them for an extended period. A legal filing is frequently necessary to maximize compensation.

A firefighter was doing his job and helping others when a crash hit other emergency vehicles and him, leading to his death. The accident is still under investigation. As the investigation moves forward, the family must protect its interests and discuss a potential legal case with an attorney experienced in helping those who have suffered the unexpected loss of a loved one in a car or work accident.
