Fatal accident involving truck kills 1

On Behalf of | Jun 18, 2017 | Wrongful Death

It is a reality of Louisiana driver’s life that they share the roadways with 18-wheelers. Essential to the economy to transport people and goods, they can be seen hurrying down the highways. Though federal and state laws regulate much of the trucking industry, including the weight of the items to be transported and the hours a truck driver can drive and rest, truck drivers are under constant pressure to drive faster and longer. This can often lead to fatal accidents.

A fatal truck accident took place in Louisiana recently, resulting in the death of a 31-year-old woman. She pulled onto the right shoulder of the northbound lane of traffic in order to make a U-turn. When she re-entered the highway, the truck struck her car on the driver’s side. She was taken to the hospital to receive medical treatment for her injuries, but her condition did not improve. She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The loss of a loved one can never be compensated adequately and family members are often left with a sense of hopelessness and frustration. However, one way to get answers and accountability may be to hold the reckless truck driver responsible for their role in the accident.

In addition to the truck driver, it may be possible to hold the trucking company accountable for their oversight. Though it is not possible to quantify the loss Louisiana residents go through in the aftermath of a fatal crash, compensation received through a wrongful death suit may go a long way in easing the financial burden associated with the accident.
