Summer break is half over for many teenagers, and it won’t be too long before they return to school. During the summertime teens take to the road with their friends, driving all over town and sometimes taking weekend trips with their friends. This increase in the amount of driving teenagers do in the summer is likely the reason for the increase in the number of accidents that occur.
According to one report, more that 27 percent of all traffic fatalities occur from July to September, with July being the highest month. Car accidents are also the leading cause of death of teenagers ages 15 to 20.
While many people might suspect these accident happen because of drinking, this was not a leading cause. Most of the accidents did involve speeding, not paying attention, and other critical errors.
While teenage drivers might lack experience or understanding of the consequences of risks they take on the road, many adults also make mistakes and are distracted while driving. It is important that all people practice safe driving habits and make driving an active task. People who get lazy or are constantly fatigued while on the road might pose a great risk to themselves and others.
