Fatal accident claims the life of Louisiana bicyclist

On Behalf of | Sep 8, 2017 | Wrongful Death

People who are on the Louisiana roads must always be cautious whether they are driving, walking, riding a bicycle or doing anything else. An accident can happen in an instant and lead to significant injuries and death. Those who are not in a vehicle and are hit by one are particularly vulnerable to injuries and fatalities. People who suffer the loss of a loved one in an accident should know how to move forward with a wrongful death lawsuit to pursue compensation.

An early morning accident on August 22 between a car and a bicycle killed the bicyclist. The accident occurred at around 5:30 a.m. A 33-year-old man was riding his bike when he was hit by a 2007 Mazda CX-7. Both were heading east and the bike was hit from behind. The rider was not wearing a helmet. The bike had lights on its back and law enforcement believes they were working. The rider was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. The driver was given a test to determine if he was under the influence, but he is not believed to have been impaired. The investigation is ongoing.

When a family is informed that a loved one has been killed in an accident, there will be the initial shock to overcome. After that, there will be funeral expenses and other circumstances to deal with. Those circumstances include moving forward and accounting for the contributions the person provided, whether the person was a stay-at-home parent, a wage-earner, a young person who was just starting out in his or her life and more. Insurance companies will often make an offer to preclude a legal filing, but accepting that is sometimes a mistake since it might not be enough to cover what they have lost personally, financially and emotionally.

In this accident, a bicyclist was hit from behind by a car and died in the crash. While the case is still being investigated, people in situations like this must protect themselves for the future by speaking to a lawyer about a possible legal case. Everyone’s situation is different, but all can use legal assistance to prepare for a legal filing.
