U.S. 90 has one of nation's highest rates for fatal car accidents

Louisiana drivers and people in proximity to various roadways will undoubtedly have anecdotal evidence of the dangers of certain areas. When this is combined with statistical evidence, it becomes clear that some roads are riskier than others. Such is the case with U.S. Highway 90. This road runs through the state for close to 300 miles and serves multiple areas.

Research from Geotab has found that U.S. 90 is statistically one of the worst roads in the nation. The National Traffic Safety Administration's data says that this highway has an average of 27 deaths per year. One study says that U.S. 90 is the 13th most dangerous highway in the country and is the most dangerous one in Louisiana. Some try to avoid taking the road altogether because of its known history.

The Geotab research came to its conclusions by calculating the number of fatalities on the road and fatal accidents from information provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This was adjusted based on the daily traffic from the Federal Highway Administration. More than 30,000 people die in a car accident on U.S. roadways every year.

For some, simply avoiding the road is not an option. Finding an alternative route might not be feasible. A car accident victim must take every factor into account after the crash as this could be an important part of a legal filing to receive compensation. With any crash, those who have been affected must be aware of their rights. There could be huge medical costs and serious life changes due to a motor vehicle accident. If there is a fatality - something that is all too common on this road - having legal help that is experienced with car accidents is vital when considering a case.
