Encountering a drunk driver on the streets and roadways of Louisiana can lead to catastrophic injuries and death. A 27-year-old woman who rear-ended a vehicle was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. The incident happened at around 2:30 a.m. as the woman, driving a compact vehicle, ran into the back of a pickup truck. The pickup subsequently hit the guardrail of the road and went into the water. The 37-year-old male driver of the pickup was killed when a piece of the guardrail went through the windshield and hit him. His female passenger was hospitalized with injuries that were not said to be life-threatening. The woman who is being held responsible for the accident had been arrested for DWI twice in the past and was driving with a suspended license.
When there is a car crash, there is the possibility that a victim will need to be hospitalized, go through rehabilitative care and have a long break between being able to get back to work. There is even the chance that the injuries will be so severe that the person will never return to normal and will require round-the-clock care. If there is a fatality, this opens a whole other avenue of issues such as funeral costs and adjusting to life without the person who died. In this case, a woman who had been arrested two previous times for drunk driving crashed into another vehicle and allegedly caused the death of the driver and the injuries to his passenger.
